Resveratrol is basically produced when the plants are attacked by pathogens like bacteria and fungi. Thus, one can say that resveratrol is antibacterial and antifungal chemical which is generally produced by plants. Resveratrol is found in different amounts in various berries and especially blueberries, in peanuts, in the skin of red grapes. It is also present in some pine such as Scots pine and Eastern pine.
Ordinarily red wine contains somewhere between .2 and 5.10 mg of Resveratrol and white wine has less quantity of resveratrol as compared to red wine. The reason the red wine has more percentage of resveratrol is because it is fermented with its skin as a result the wine absorbs resveratrol and white wine is fermented by removing the skin. Even muscadine grapes are believed to have resveratrol in more than 40 mg/L. Peanuts are considered to have high percentage of resveratrol. Moreover, capsules containing resveratrol are also available in market. These capsules are available from 1mg to 600mg.
However, the nutritional supplement of resveratrol is also available in the market. This supplement contains less amount of resveratrol as compared to the one’s which are naturally derived. There is a belief that if resveratrol is consumed in its natural form it is more likely that body may leave it as compared to the chemical supplement. Many experiments are being done on animals to see the effect of resveratrol. It is believed that resveratrol has many health benefits. It helps in increasing metabolism, helps in fat loss and is believed to possess anti aging properties.
